Are school text books reliable for learning languages? Or would other ones be a better option?

So im trying to learn a language(TL) and im stuck on two books to help me learn it, are school ones usually reliable? or should i not always go for the school book just for the fact that its a school textbook? Ive never learnt the language before too so im not rlly certain on how
